Relevance of the proposed topic of the article is proved by the lack of research in current philosophical hermeneutic reflection of humanitarian knowledge related to literary works, including texts of philosophical novels as representatives of this knowledge. “Glass Bead Game” by H. Hesse belongs to a literary genre of philosophical novel which is often underestimated as a kind of artistic philosophy or considered to be an eloquent illustration of philosophical and aesthetic cultural studies. The purpose of the article is to show intentions and willingness of the author to overcome the “decline of Europe” that is a profound crisis of European culture and people of XX century by comprehension of polar spiritual oppositions as various possibilities of realization of human personality and culture according to the text of the novel by H. Hesse.
