Herasymchuk V.A. «Picturesque portrait” in a literary text, romantic and modernistic discourse // Actualni problemy duhovnosti: Zb. nauk. pr. – Kryvyj Rig: KSPU, 2005. – № 6. – P. 217–228.
Aesthetic features of functioning text in the text, spiritual and psychological metamorphosis of characters owing to their interaction with the “portraits” are traced by distinguishing and comparing the two “painted portraits” based on an example of two interpretations (romantic:
M. Gogol “Portrait” and modernist: O. Wilde “Portrait of Dorian Gray”). A theme of Faust of selling the soul to the devil is actualized in an axiological aspect: as the theme that is relevant to the spiritual foundations of existence, its main cultural substance – humanity in person. Modal logic is the original plot principle of both texts. Characters are offered two types of life that is a sort of a game with their lives.
