Essay as a universal category is studied in the dimension of multicultural characteristics in correlation with intertextuality, combinations of different genres (often on the verge of absurdity) with total irony (which comes to the grotesque). Essay in the article appears in two ways: as a generic feature of postmodern discourse and as generic feature of a literary work. Paradox is separately accented. It appears in combination of multi-vector ideology and straightforward willingness to concentrate on primary targets.
