Marijka Pidgoryanka - (real name Maria Omelyanivna Lenert). The family was large, there were not enough funds for education for everyone. Therefore, only Maria's brothers were sent to school, and she studied at home. She studied easily and willingly, her memory was very good - after reading any stories, she could retell it almost verbatim. At the age of 19 she successfully passed the exams at the Teachers' Seminary in Lviv, received a diploma in teaching. And since then she has worked in rural schools of Transcarpathia and Prykarpattia for 40 years. There in one of the villages she found her destiny. In the village of Rybnoye, where she worked, she met a colleague, also a teacher at a local school, Augustin Dombrovsky, with whom she married a year later.

In the late 1920s, Maria lost her job due to the Czech government's campaign against Ukrainian schools. Then, together with her husband's sister, she headed a rural school in Antonovka (Tlumach district, Ivano-Frankivsk region). Maria was engaged in teaching until 1939, that is, before the occupation of Western Ukraine by the Soviet Union. The teacher's career ended in the spring of 1940. Pidgiryanka accidentally fell under the horse's hooves, almost trampled her. Because of this, the woman remained bedridden for the rest of her life.
