On Saturday, October 2, 2021, a student round table was held on the topic "The image of Destiny in literature: from antiquity to the present".
The event was attended by students of the Faculty of Linguistics, Institute of Applied Systems Analysis, Heat Power Engineer Department, employees of the Department of Ukrainian Language, Literature and Culture NTUU "Igor Sikorsky KPI", representatives of the Faculty of Computer Science and Cybernetics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
Many issues were covered: fate as a given in the ancient Greek and Scandinavian cultures; the evolution of views on whether destiny can be changed, and the reproduction of this in the literature; the difference between the finals of the struggle with the fate of romantic heroes and characters of the New Age; finally, a man who creates his own destiny, as a contemporary character.
The discussion went beyond the purely linguistic context and acquired a general philosophical character: fatalism and purposefulness; the problem of choice and the dependence of this choice on a person or on external circumstances; modern fascination with villainous heroes in various genres of art; the value of human life and its dependence on socially useful qualities of the individual; problems of humanism and the emergence of evil geniuses of mankind; the question of the possibility of choosing a way of life and the evolution of views on this issue.
The meeting was useful and interesting for all participants in the rhetorical as well as worldview aspects.
We plan to continue to hold such events and sincerely invite everyone to discuss!
