"It will be easier to say which languages I don't know," joked Agatangel Krymsky. According to various estimates, he knew from 60 to 100 languages. Fluent in so many languages, as well as knowing all the dialectal features of the Ukrainian language, A. Krymsky made a significant contribution to Ukrainian and Russian Oriental Studies and Ukrainian Studies.
Agatangel Yukhymovich Krymsky was born on January 15, 1871 in the city of Volodymyr-Volynsky in a family that had Tatar-Belarusian roots on the paternal line, and Polish-Lithuanian ones on the maternal line. After graduating from the Second Kyiv Gymnasium A. Krymsky during 1885-1889 studied at the College of Paul Galagan, where he was greatly influenced by the famous Ukrainian philologist P.G. Living.
