З ІСТОРІЇ УКРАЇНСЬКОЇ ВИШИВКИ

In theses titled "From the history of Ukrainian embroidery," the author examines the main periods of embroidery from ancient Scythian and Sarmatian symbols up to the contemporary art. The author points out the most famous archaeological finds relating to the origins of the art form, focusing on symbolic and mmagical meaning of embroidery and its position on clothes. The report also describes the development of embroidery in the period of Kievan Rus, the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, the twentieth century and importance of embroidery in modern Ukraine. Author also mentions the ornamental and color variety that occurs in various regions, as well as the impact on the Ukrainian art by the Byzantine and factory production.
